Travel
If you are flying to Smicha Week, Los Angeles Int’l Airport (LAX) will likely have the most flights and best fares. Redlands is 80 miles (90 minutes, except during peak traffic hours) from LAX. The closest airport is Ontario Int’l Airport (ONT), which is 25 miles from campus. Make your arrangements to arrive on campus between 3 and 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 3. The ordinations programs intensive study week will end on Sunday, July 10 at 11:00 am. Information regarding transportation to/from the airports will be posted to this site by mid-May.
If you will be arriving by car, you’ll find driving directions from many originating points at www.redlands.edu/about-redlands/281.aspx.
Lodging
All Smicha Week participants will be lodged in the Brockton Avenue Apartments on campus.
Each unit has 4 single bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room. Linens and towels will be provided.
There is a laundry room, in the apartment complex, which will be available for use with a paycard that you may obtain in Hunsaker Hall (activities center).
IF YOU WILL BE ATTENDING THE ALEPH KALLAH and you choose the apartments for your housing option during that week, please be sure to let the Kallah office know that you are staying for Smicha Week. AND, be sure to indicate on your registration for Smicha Week that you have chosen the Brockton Apts for your Kallah housing. This will make it possible for us to coordinate your apartment assignment so that you will not have to move on July 3rd.
Should you choose a less costly housing option for the Kallah, please note that you will have to move out of your dorm on Sunday morning, July 3rd, and store your luggage at the Smicha Week registration location until the apartments have been cleaned and are ready to be turned over to us. The University staff will make every effort to make the apartments available between 3 and 5 pm.
Student Fees
The all-inclusive cost for Smicha Week is $1700
Children and Teens Program & Fees
As in the past, Ruach Ha’Aretz will provide a children’s program if there is a need. Please respond no later than April 22nd – on the registration form, below – if you intend to bring your child(ren) with you. Shortly after April 22nd, we will notify you of our decision.
Children’s program fee: $250 – includes supervision during class hours, and evening study hall, and pool pass.
No fee for children up to 2 years, but please let us know in the registration form below.
Room & Board for children 2–4: $108
Room & Board for children and teens, ages 5 and up: $390
Some Additional Information
The University is equipped with WiFi throughout the campus (though it may be less reliable in the apartments than in classrooms and other public spaces on campus). If you intend to bring your own laptop, or to use the computers in the computer lab, and wish to have access to the campus internet, you must let us know in the appropriate space on the registration form so that we can send you the University agreement form to sign and return to us no later than June 10th.
The University offers us the use of its Fitness Center and Pool for a minor fee. Fitness Center passes are $5 for the duration of the program; Pool passes are $5 for the duration of the program. If you plan to use either or both kinds of passes, please indicate on your registration form and add the appropriate fee. [The Fitness Center is restricted to persons 18 years or older. The Pool will be open to all, and will be used by the Children’s Program during the week. Kids’ passes are included in the Children’s program fee above.]
This program is for students in the ALEPH Ordination programs and candidates whose application is in process. Students enrolled in one of our Smicha programs are welcome to register now for Smicha Week.
If you are a candidate for one of our Smicha programs, a letter of invitation from Rabbi Marcia Prager, Reb Shulamit Fagan or Hazzan Jack Kessler must be received by Ruach Ha'Aretz (sent to info@ruachhaaretz.com) before we can process your registration for Smicha Week.
